Former Majority Leader and outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame in the Ashanti Region, Honourable Osei Kyie Mensah Bonsu, believes the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) should forget about breaking the proverbial eight if the NDC can make advances into the Ashanti Region.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is desperate to improve its vote share in the Ashanti Region, which is a stronghold for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The party has increased its efforts in the region to persuade disaffected NPP supporters. John Dramani Mahama has visited the region several times, hoping to persuade undecided voters to his side.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Osei Kyie Mensah Bonsu stated that, while the major opposition party does not dominate the Ashanti Region in both presidential and parliamentary elections, it is one of the locations where they receive the most votes.

He stated that if John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, receives 30% of the total legitimate votes cast in the Ashanti Region, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be unable to lead the party to break the proverbial eighth.

Meanwhile, Osei Kyie Mensah Bonsu has stated that the NPP is doing everything it can to maintain its supremacy in the Ashanti Region and prevent the NDC from causing an upset in the 2019 general elections.

In a video published on Facebook by Kumasi Angel FM, Osei Kyie Mensah Bonsu stated that his party will not give the NDC a chance in the Ashanti Region, promising to keep their solid grip on the region.
