Top-notch Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has been selected to officiate the MC Alger game against Yanga SC in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Stade du 5 Juillet in Algeria on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Both teams will be vying for a win to improve their chances of advancing from the group stage.
MC Alger began their group stage campaign with a 1-1 draw against TP Mazembe, while Yanga SC suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Sudanese side Al-Hilal.
Laryea’s experience will be crucial in officiating what is expected to be a fiercely contested match.
Laryea is regarded as one of the top Ghanaian referees, having officiated in various tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), CHAN, CAF Women’s Champions League, and other prestigious interclub competitions.
He was included in the FIFA Referees list in 2014 and has established himself as one of the leading officials in Africa.
This is a positive development for Ghanaian referees who have faced challenges in gaining recognition to officiate matches at major tournaments.
