Having come to the realization that the NPP cannot win a free, fair, and transparent election on December 7, a key NPP member serving as a director at the presidency is reported to be making several clandestine visits to the barracks for reasons suspected to be connected with the elections.
A reliable source has also intimated that this individual is aiding and facilitating the training and acquisition of weapons by some civilians with questionable characters for unknown purposes.
The key party member, who has a reputation for using land guards and militias to terrorize law-abiding citizens, is certainly no stranger to controversy regarding the unlawful use of force. Since October 2024, he has been noticed frequenting Burma Camp at night, picking up some serving military officers under the cover of darkness and taking them to unknown locations.
The vehicles identified as being associated with his movements in the barracks include a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, and a Toyota Rav 4, which is reportedly owned by an operations officer in the army.
On Friday, October 18, at about 10:40 pm, he was reported to have been spotted in a black Toyota Land Cruiser V8 in Burma Camp. The vehicle picked up some serving military officers from their homes and quickly left the barracks. At about 11:20 pm, the vehicle and a Tundra pickup were seen leaving the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down. Insider reports indicate that the group visited the CheckPoint and Buck Press printing houses that night.
Another report states that on November 6, 2024, a Land Cruiser with a specific registration number entered a premises at Galilee, Kasoa, where the occupants were met by two military personnel armed with M16 automatic rifles.
On November 14, at around 10:40 pm, the team was spotted at Gloriaka Hotel, near the Winneba Junction.
What is baffling some observers is that, instead of assisting in ensuring free and fair elections, this principal member of the Akufo-Addo government is reportedly recruiting elements of the Ghana Armed Forces to undermine the peace and integrity of the election.
The fear expressed by concerned citizens is that the brutalities seen during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and the Techiman South 2020 election could be repeated on December 7 at major polling centers if the government is not called to order by Traditional Leaders and the international community.
In line with this, some security analysts have warned against these alleged activities in the military barracks.
These concerns come amidst the death of eight innocent persons who were shot by soldiers at Techiman South during the 2020 elections.
