According to reports from GhanaWeb, the Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Omane Boamah, has expressed concern about recent developments in Ghana’s electoral process as the 2024 elections approach.
He appreciates, however, that the Electoral Commission has proactively informed all political parties about its decision to recall the ballot papers for the Western and Eastern regions.
In a social media post, Dr. Boamah commended the Electoral Commission for its transparency, contrasting it with the previous incident involving stolen Biometric Voter Registration kits.
He shared updates from an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee, noting several key points.
“There will be no special voting in the Eastern and Western regions as originally planned; instead, it will take place on Thursday.
A ballot paper from the Eastern region was reported stolen, and the same company, Checkpoint, was responsible for printing ballots for both regions.
State security has not disclosed any information about the suspect(s) involved.
The reprinting of the ballots will occur at three different print houses.”
The Electoral Commission has confirmed that special voting in the affected regions is now scheduled for Thursday, December 5, due to the incident involving the compromised ballot papers.
The Commission has engaged three printing houses to ensure the secure reprinting of the ballots.
