Int’l Human Rights Commission calls for peaceful 2024 elections

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Ghana has called on Ghanaians to uphold peace during and after the upcoming general elections.

In a statement issued on December 2, IHRC Ghana highlighted the nation’s history of peaceful elections and expressed confidence that the 2024 polls would continue this tradition.

“The peace of Ghana is essential to every Ghanaian and we all have the responsibility to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, free and fair.

“Peaceful elections depend on the conscious effort of every citizen to embrace tolerance, coexistence and love for one another. Peace is very expensive but costs less, therefore we owe it a duty to maintain it.”

IHRC also urged the security apparatus to focus on their professionalism to ensure violence-free elections.

“The security apparatus plays a pivotal role in ensuring peaceful and transparent elections, therefore our personnel must focus on their professionalism to ensure violence-free elections.”

IHRC Ghana further advised political parties, government, media houses, and security personnel, to put in place measures and strategies that would promote free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

The Commission is optimistic that the 2024 general elections will be peaceful, taking into consideration the arrangements of the Electoral Commission (EC).
