Election 2024: Our team didn’t share any food

John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has denied allegations that his team distributed food to voters during the special voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.

The accusation emerged amid heightened tensions in the constituency following reports that the incumbent Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Lydia Alhassan, was seen distributing food packs to voters in queues at the polling centre.

The NPP, however, countered the criticism by alleging that it was, in fact, the NDC team that engaged in food distribution.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on December 2, Dumelo categorically dismissed the claims, reiterating his commitment to fair campaign practices and condemning the act of distributing food near voting centres. He stressed that such activities undermine the electoral process and should not be tolerated.

“We didn’t share anything. Our issue is even if you want to share food, you can do it away from the area, not in the queue. And certainly not almost close to the area where people are voting and you tell them to come and collect money. We didn’t share anything today. Not money or food,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an investigation into the alleged food-sharing incident in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
