Soldiers will not be deployed at polling stations — Ghana Armed Forces

Accra, Dec 01, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) says no soldier will be deployed at any polling station.

A statement signed by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie, Director General, Department of Public Affairs, said GAF’s presence will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for election security, resting with the Ghana Police Service (GPS).

The military in the statement, explained that, uniformed personnel will only be deployed upon request by the GPS

The GAF stated that was taking a collaborative approach to ensure that, the elections proceeded smoothly and peacefully while maintaining law and order.

Moreover, it formed part of their ongoing commitment to maintaining national security and peace during the exercise.

The GAF encouraged the public to report any person impersonating or posing as a military personnel or wearing their gears to the nearest police station or call the GPS toll free numbers as follows: 18555 or 0800 311 311 for immediate action to be taken against such individuals.

The GAF urged the public to cooperate with security personnel to ensure a peaceful and successful elections.
