The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an incident involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, and members of the Adjakaa Manso community in the Western Region.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, November 30, 2024, reportedly left six members of Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s campaign team injured, although the parliamentary candidate herself escaped unhurt.
According to a police statement, the confrontation began when the candidate’s team encountered a vehicle parked in the middle of the road while returning from a political event.
Efforts by her team to engage the driver escalated into a misunderstanding, which later involved some members of the local community.
The altercation resulted in injuries to two individuals and damage to two vehicles.
The Police have assured the public of their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.
“We urge members of the community to remain calm as the investigation continues to identify and apprehend the perpetrators,” a Police spokesperson said.
This incident has heightened concerns about election-related violence in the region, prompting calls for peace and restraint from political stakeholders and community leaders as the 2024 elections approach.
