The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have come under fire from policy expert and IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe for what he calls “double standards” in their treatment of small-scale chicken farming projects.

Although the NPP Communication Team made fun of former President John Dramani Mahama’s plan to give out cockerels as part of a small-scale poultry project, Cudjoe noted that the government had already carried out a scheme akin to this in 2020.

The government provided 182,000 layer pullets to 1,400 women farmers in the same regions and 80,000 cockerels to 4,000 farmers in 14 regions, as stated in paragraph 173 of the 2020 Budget Statement.

“It is disappointing that Dr. Bawumia, who was in Parliament when the Finance Minister introduced this initiative, also made fun of Mahama’s proposal,” Cudjoe said.

A deeper problem of consistency in the political discourse was brought to light by his questioning of whether Dr. Bawumia’s actions were the result of supervision or hypocrisy.

“This is about honesty and consistency in public communication and policy-making, not just the poultry initiative,” Cudjoe said.
