The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly disputed claims that the timing of its final rally, scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024, was deliberately chosen to coincide with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) rally.
With just six days left until the 2024 elections, both major political parties, the NPP and the NDC, are set to hold their concluding rallies on the same day.
This overlap has sparked debate, with some accusing the NDC of scheduling its event in a way that could potentially disrupt the NPP’s plans.
However, Mustapha Gbande, the NDC’s Deputy General Secretary, has firmly denied these allegations and says despite the clash in dates, the NDC is optimistic about the turnout.
“We’re all signing out how our campaigns will be, I don’t think it’s a coincidence. I don’t think it’s a plan to shortchange another. At the end of the day, what matters most is that the Ghanaian will have a choice or an option to choose to continue suffering or dislodge his/her suffering by voting against the NPP. I’m convinced that the [former] president Mahama is not a candidate of only the NDC but a candidate by the people of Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Haruna Mohammed says the rally will be the final push for the NPP as it wraps up its nationwide campaigns to gear up for the critical elections just days away.
“The last lap will be taken on Sunday, we will have meetings to decide what activities we have to do. This very week is dedicated to many of the activities relative to areas the flagbearer has not been able to visit.
“The national secretary, the national organiser, the national chairman and the running mate of the party and other big wigs of the party are going round the country. Other national officers such as us have all gone to the interior part of the country to be able to send a good message of the flagbearer.”
