Kennedy. Since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) effectively lost the vote in 2022, Assin Central Member of Parliament Ohene Agyapong has predicted that the party will lose the general elections in 2024. Agyapong recently pointed to the nation’s economic problems, specifically the notable devaluation of the Ghanaian cedi, as the main cause of the anticipated loss. He argued that the economic struggles of common Ghanaians, especially those who own businesses, from small-scale traders to larger corporations, have contributed to the general discontent with the government.
Many locals, especially small sellers like tomato dealers, have suffered financial losses as a result of the current economic climate, Agyapong said. He emphasized that Ghanaians are becoming more and more disgruntled with the current government as living expenses rise and businesses suffer, and that this dissatisfaction will probably affect how they vote in 2024. Agyapong claims that people usually make decisions that express their dissatisfaction when they are going through a difficult moment, and that this trend is expected to continue in the upcoming elections.
Since many residents are choosing not to support the NPP due to the harsh economic realities they confront, the MP argued that the party’s decline in support is already evident. He asserted that there has been a change in political sentiment in Ghana, as many citizens wish to vote against the NPP instead of feeling empowered by the existing government. The remarks made by Agyapong coincide with a period of growing economic turmoil as the 2024 election draws near. His comments reveal a growing dissatisfaction among individuals as they contemplate their alternatives for the next administration.
