Chairman of the NDC’s 2024 Planning Committee, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has voiced concerns over the Electoral Commission’s recent announcement regarding a shortfall of ballot papers in five constituencies in the Volta Region.
In a letter dated November 28, 2024, addressed to the representatives of presidential candidates, the EC stated that there were shortages of both presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West constituencies.
The EC stated that the ballot papers would be printed by Acts Commercials on November 29, 2024, and requested that political parties and independent presidential candidates provide two representatives to observe the printing process.
In response to the development, Dr. Otokunor expressed his concerns, urging the Electoral Commission to proceed cautiously.
According to him, the EC has, on multiple occasions, made decisions or taken actions that could potentially compromise the integrity of the elections.
He emphasised, however, that any attempts by the EC to compromise the elections would be met with resistance, and that the commission would be held accountable for the consequences of its actions.
“This Electoral Commission is playing with fire!! Why do you get shortages in only Volta Region? @ECGhanaOfficial this your continuous attempt to compromise the elections, will be resisted and you will regret the implications,” he posted on X on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Ghanaians will head to the polls on December 7 to elect new leaders in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
