Ghana will come out of Election 2024 stronger and better

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to uphold its democratic principles as the country approaches the December 7 general elections.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted Ghana’s progress in democratic governance, asserting that the nation’s political maturity will ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Speaking at the signing of the National Peace Pact in Accra, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his belief that Ghana’s democracy is resilient and will remain intact regardless of the outcome of the elections.

He emphasised the importance of the Peace Pact in fostering unity and promoting peaceful co-existence during the polls.

“We must endeavour to contribute our due, that is why the signing of the 2024 presidential Peace Pact is profoundly significant.

“As we head into the December polls, nine days from today [Thursday] I’m certain of two outcomes, Ghana will win and peace will reign.

“As we approach the election, my plea to everybody involved in the electioneering process including candidates, political parties, media, electoral officers, voters, security, and the general public is to take responsibility for ensuring peace and harmony seriously. And to demonstrate that we’re not reluctant democrats.”

“My hope and that of the NPP is that we will come out of this election stronger as a nation.”

The event, organised under the auspices of the National Peace Council and the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), brought together presidential candidates, civil society groups, and diplomatic representatives.

The Peace Pact aims to secure commitments from political leaders to maintain peace and accept the election results in good faith.

Dr. Bawumia also urged all stakeholders, including political parties and their supporters, to contribute to a violence-free election. He underscored the significance of peaceful transitions in consolidating Ghana’s democratic credentials.

The Vice President’s remarks align with broader efforts to ensure Ghana continues to be a beacon of democracy in Africa.
