The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has assured the people of the Volta Region that the next government of President John Mahama will prioritise the completion of abandoned projects and add more.
Speaking in an interview on Radio Jubilee in Keta as part of his special homestretch campaign tour of the Volta region, Mr Kwetey, who doubles as the coordinator of the NDC 2024 Reset Ghana Campaign asked all Ewes to be proud of their association with the party and know that they have been part of the development trajectory of this country.
“I know my people have few reservations. But this is your party. This is the party that put all tribes and faiths together right from the beginning. A party that believes in inclusion. I want to assure you all that this time, it is not going to be business as usual in the Volta region and the entire country. We shall tackle our mandate of development and providing jobs head-on.
“The government of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia did not develop the Ashanti region but the NDC can count the number of projects executed in that region as a nationalist and people-centered party. You should not be surprised why some people there are still proud of the NPP as their party. Let’s face it – some unintentional setbacks occurred. We are here to right the wrongs,” he said.
Mr Kwetey underlined that on a comparative level, the NDC has performed better on developing the Volta region than the NPP.
He noted that with a debt status of GH₵120 billion at the time of the NDC government in 2016, visible signs of economic growth and development were there while in the case of the NPP government which borrowed close to GHS800billion but has rather left Ghana’s economy in shambles.
The NDC General Secretary pointed out that Ewes are hardworking, dedicated and loyal people who have been part and parcel of nation-building, citing the special case of Mr. K.A. Gbedemah who supported Dr Kwame Nkrumah in the liberation and independence struggle of Ghana from British colonial rule.
He furthered, “Now we are proud that an indigene of the land, the late Flt. Lt J.J Rawlings, founder of the NDC and the Fourth Republic together with key leaders from all corners of this country brought us the NDC. So, this is our party. Let us thank God JJ Rawlings together with elders from other tribes across the nation lifted this country from the abyss of poverty and economic crisis and propagated values that brought massive development to our dear nation.
“When you are borne into the Catholic or Presbyterian faith and there are problems in there, you don’t detach yourself. You stay in to correct things. So let’s come together and make the NDC better. We must constantly remind ourselves that Ghanaians are giving us a mandate to better their lives and we must do just that.”
The Campaign Coordinator assured the people of the Volta region that all critical road networks, markets, hospitals, schools and other infrastructure projects will be tackled with all seriousness under President Mahama citing the Aflao-Ho, Keta-Aflao and others.
He said the next NDC government will not double in the lying spree of the NPP government where they promise a lot but deliver zilch.
On the Keta Harbour project, Mr Kwetey said proper feasibility studies must be conducted to enable the NDC government have all the sound grounding in project management and framework to enable its effective implementation.
He also assured that the phase two of the sea defense project along the Keta and other coastal belts will be a priority as it was the NDC that did the first phase.
The youth were also reassured that the flagship 24-hour economic policy would provide meaningful jobs for them, while women would benefit greatly in the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank with low-interest loans for their businesses.
“We are a party founded on the principle of truth. So we will not deceive the people. Let that be the distinction between us and the NPP. This government promised the people of Cape Coast an airport. For eight years they have not delivered. And there are many of these failed promises and pledges across the country,” he said.
Mr. Fifi Kwetey also stopped at Adina in the Ketu South constituency where he interacted with teeming supporters of fishmongers and businesswomen.
He will later address a mammoth rally of Ketu South in Aflao where thousands including youth and elderly are supposed to attend.
The homestretch campaign tour is expected to end in Hohoe on Saturday.
