Arresting the youth for brandishing and firing toy guns is primitive

Iconic Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has criticized the police for arresting young Ghanaians who were brandishing and firing toy guns.

The Ghana Police Service arrested 26 individuals for violating Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960, which prohibits the brandishing and firing of toy guns.

The trend of toy gun play originated in Kumasi, where young people were reliving childhood memories. Videos of the activity quickly went viral on social media, inspiring others to join in the fun.

In a social media post, Shatta Wale labelled the arrest as ‘Primitive’. The ‘On God’ crooner argues that these individuals could be guided by the police rather than face legal action.

 “Arresting ghetto youth for playing with toy guns and failing to guide them on Christmas celebration is the most primitive act in 2024. THE TRUTH – UNLESS THEY KEEL GOD.” He wrote
