President Akufo-Addo paying homage to Otumfuo
PRESIDENT NANA Akufo-Addo has expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his invaluable support which has contributed greatly to make his reign successful.
He recounted how the Asante monarch stood firmly behind him in difficult and good times, even when he was not in political office, adding that Otumfuo’s support and love for him has increased since he became the President in 2017.
According to President Akufo-Addo, as his reign gradually draws to a close, it was important that he travelled to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to personally express his gratitude to Otumfuo and Asanteman.
“Otumfuo, I stand before you today to express my thanks to you for the great things that you have done to support me, notably in political office. You advised me about every significant national issue that I contacted you about.
“Your consistent wise counsel and support to me greatly helped my administration to be successful. The Bawku issue is an example; you are helping us to solve it. You deserve thanks for the success of my administration.
“Members of my team here know that I appreciate the support that you give to me as President. May God continue to bless and protect you,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
The President used the occasion to appeal to Otumfuo to continue the support, so that the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections would be peaceful, in order to enhance national unity and growth.
Ghana, President Akufo-Addo emphasised, is the leader in the practice of democracy on the African continent, stressing the need for the country and its citizens to contribute significantly to help protect democratic rule.
Otumfuo disclosed that Ghana is bigger than any ambition of a political party or a politician, therefore, the peace being enjoyed in the country should be jealously protected by all-and-sundry before, during and after the December 7 polls.
“Election is not war; it’s not insults, so preach about your policies for votes. After the election, we should all support the winner who would be declared by the Electoral Commission to help sustain national peace,” he said.
The Asantehene reiterated that, “President Akufo-Addo has assured me to leave a peaceful Ghana to his successor on January 7, 2025, and we should all contribute our part to make the President’s commendable dream become a reality.
“When you leave political office, the doors of Manhyia Palace shall always remain open to you,” he assured President Akufo-Addo.
