Minister for Finance inaugurates water project for Karaga Constituency

Karaga, Nov 28, GNA – Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Karaga has inaugurated a water project supplying potable water to the Karaga township, Zenyili and Binduli in the constituency to address the perennial water shortage in the area.

The project, which started in June, this year, and completed in November, and solely funded by the government through the Ministry of Finance with a total cost of GHs18,191,498.11, involved two underground water production sources mechanised at Zenyili to run on both solar and electricity, a total of 13.50 kilometres of pipes consisting of 6.40km transmission and 7.10km distribution network.

It also involved the installation of two packaged water purification plants at Binduli, rehabilitation of the two existing high level storage tanks, construction of a total of 67 public standpipes with the latest smart tap technology and traditional standpipes.

Dr Adam, speaking during the inauguration of the project at Karaga, said it would serve the people of the area for a long time.

He encouraged investors, businessmen and women to take advantage of the facilities in the constituency to establish more businesses in the area.

He said, “I expect that with the abundant availability of potable water now in Karaga coupled with stable electricity supply, investors will take advantage to establish small and medium factories and businesses in this area to give employment to the youth as well as open up the development of the area.”

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, Northern Regional Minister, urged the people of the area to show appreciation for the numerous projects provided to them by government by retaining it through voting come December 7 to enable it to continue to improve lives and well-being of the people.

He touched on peace and said “The peace of the people of the Karaga Constituency and Ghana is paramount. We must, therefore, eschew violence before, during and after the elections.”

Mr Aloysius Adjetey, Chief Executive Officer, Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), urged the people of Karaga, Zenyili, and Binduli to collaborate and support the CWSA team to efficiently and effectively manage the water system to guarantee its sustainability.

Naa Bakpem Kar-Naa Abdulai Natogmah, Paramount Chief of Karaga Traditional Area, commended Dr Adam for the project and gave assurance that “The gods of the land will always protect you and bless you. This constituency is blessed to have you, and I am particularly grateful for having you in my regime.”
