Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his lack of excitement about the upcoming 2024 general elections, stating that his “real party” is not represented on the ballot. The renowned academic and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation made these remarks during a recent interview on Joy News TV.
When asked by the interviewer if he was excited about the elections with just days to go, Professor Frimpong Boateng surprised many by stating that he was not. “My real party is not on the ballot,” he revealed, prompting surprise among those who have known him as one of the NPP’s strong pillars over the years.
In his response, Professor Frimpong Boateng explained that his disillusionment stems from the current state of the NPP. He expressed concerns about the lack of unity within the party, making it clear that he does not feel connected to the party as it stands. “The NPP is not united, and I don’t feel like I’m part of it anymore,” he added.
The news has raised eyebrows, especially considering Professor Frimpong Boateng’s long-standing involvement with the NPP, dating back to his family’s early association with the party. “This is a party I love, and I have an emotional attachment to it from the days of my grandfather,” he said, explaining that his disenchantment comes from the current direction the party has taken.
Professor Frimpong Boateng also spoke about the challenges he has faced within the NPP, citing ongoing legal disputes with some of his own party members. “Four of my own party members have taken me to court after I mentioned their names in a report on fighting environmental terrorism,” he explained, adding that these personal and professional tensions have further contributed to his sense of disconnection.
