The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, widely known as Pablo, has criticized the current state of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, labelling it “a mess.”
Speaking on Point Blank, a segment of Eyewitness News, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Pablo outlined the NDC’s plans to reform education if elected in the upcoming general elections.
He emphasized the party’s strong track record in delivering quality education, referencing initiatives such as eradicating schools under trees and eliminating the shift system at the basic education level during previous NDC administrations.
Pablo assured Ghanaians that the NDC is committed to addressing the Free SHS policy’s challenges. He pledged that the party would improve its implementation to deliver better outcomes for students and ensure that the policy meets the nation’s educational needs effectively.
“The NDC has a track record of providing quality education. During our time, we eradicated schools under trees at the basic level. We ended the shift system. We have a track record and we have shown the good people of this country that we know the benefit of free education. We will not rush and introduce policies that we cannot implement.
“We will do things right and we will fix free SHS. As we stand today, free SHS is a mess. When you supply school children with expired food. Some of the foods that are being served to our children, [you will not even serve it to your dogs]. These are the challenges that we are talking about. We will 4imporve on it and make it better,” he stated.
