The maiden edition of the Ghana-Diaspora Home Purchase Expo 2024 is scheduled to take place on 12 and 13 December 2024 at the British Council in Accra.
Dubbed the Ghana-Diaspora Home Purchase Expo 2024, the exhibition aims to bring together top-tier stakeholders in the real estate and housing sector under one roof.
Several real estate developers, financial institutions, insurance companies, and other key players in the industry have already signed up, indicating their readiness to participate in the much-anticipated event.
Nilex Properties, the headline sponsor, is leading the charge to position Ghana as a prime destination for property investment.
Launched in September 2024 in Accra, the event has since gained momentum, attracting major industry players and setting the stage for greater collaboration to further elevate Ghana’s real estate sector.
The exhibition will focus on engaging members of the Ghanaian diaspora who are planning to resettle in the country, providing them with opportunities to interact with industry leaders and explore real estate investment options.
Additionally, the Expo will showcase a diverse range of housing developments and investment opportunities aimed at both Ghanaians abroad and non-Ghanaians interested in relocating to or investing in Ghana’s real estate market.
Organiser’s Vision
Speaking to journalists about the event, Lead Organiser Alex Osei-Owusu described the Expo as an exceptional opportunity for members of the diaspora to connect with industry professionals.
“This Expo provides a unique platform for individuals interested in real estate to engage with developers and mortgage providers offering tailored packages to suit their needs,” Mr Osei-Owusu stated.
He reassured attendees that they would have access to flexible mortgage options from leading banks, making property ownership more attainable.
The Expo will also feature expert lawyers to guide participants on the legal aspects of property investment. From understanding land tenure systems to avoiding fraud, attendees will receive comprehensive advice to make informed decisions.
“This event is designed to bring all stakeholders in the real estate industry together to network, share insights, and foster partnerships,” Mr Osei-Owusu added.
He encouraged Ghanaians in the diaspora to register for the Expo, describing it as a “landmark event” aimed at creating valuable connections between local real estate practitioners and overseas investors.
While the primary focus is on the Ghanaian diaspora, Mr Osei-Owusu emphasised that local buyers were also welcome to participate.
Promoting Economic Tourism
Highlighting Ghana’s increasing appeal as a festive destination, Mr Osei-Owusu noted the growing popularity of Christmas and Easter events, such as the Paragliding Festival, which have become fixtures on the national calendar.
“The Ghana Tourism Authority has played a pivotal role in attracting the diaspora to Ghana. Through this Expo, we aim to market Ghana as a destination for economic tourism, encouraging visitors to invest in the country,” he explained.
Call to Action for Local Industry
The Managing Director of Nilex Properties, Nilesh More, urged industry players to prioritise locally made building materials over imports.
“Using local materials will help reduce the cost of properties, making them more affordable for the average Ghanaian,” Mr More asserted.
He emphasised that supporting local production would not only lower housing costs but also stimulate the local economy, generating thousands of jobs for Ghanaian youth and addressing unemployment challenges.
Mr More encouraged Ghanaians at home and abroad to collaborate in boosting the local industry, stating that such efforts would create sustainable economic opportunities for the nation.
The Ghana-Diaspora Home Purchase Expo 2024 is poised to become a significant event in Ghana’s real estate calendar, fostering connections and driving growth in the sector.
