IMANI Africa’s founding president, Franklin Cudjoe, sharply criticized Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo’s usage of an opulent presidential jet while sharing a story about his own opulent First Class flight on the Airbus A380 from New York to Milan.
I had the honor of traveling in First Class on the Airbus A380 yesterday from New York to Milan on my way to the Middle East, and gosh, it was beautiful, mostly because I got to experience what it’s like to take a sky bath,” Franklin wrote. He described in detail the special qualities of the Airbus A380, such as its luxurious restrooms. “Airbus developed and manufactured the Airbus A380, a very large wide-body airplane. Citing Wikipedia, he continued, “It is the only full-length double-deck jet airliner and the largest passenger airliner in the world.”
Franklin took advantage of the chance to make comparisons to the presidential jet of Ghana. “Nana Akufo-Addo, the president, truly appreciates the jet plane that he purchased with our money without our permission. They say that the sanitary facilities on the plane are comparable to what I have shown you here. He made fun of the President’s alleged extravagance in the face of Ghana’s economic difficulties by saying, “Nana, enjoy bathing in the skies until January 5th, 2025, na wu su wu ye person wai, even though you messed us up economically.”
On a more humorous side, Franklin explained that his opulent trip was paid for by his employment from April to August 2024 as deputy team lead on a consulting project for the British Government. “The funds used for this airline were obtained through consulting… He ended with a humorous and civic engagement plea, saying, “By the way, I go Ghana come inspire you all to conduct the biggest communal labor in Ghana’s political history on December 7th to clear all the overgrown weeds and make Ghana great again.” Franklin’s article demonstrates his ability to integrate serious topics with approachable comedy by combining personal tales, incisive political criticism, and humorous commentary.
