Captain Smart Applauds Kennedy Agyapong for Leadership in Parliament Amid NPP Absences

The host of Onua Maakye on Onua TV, Captain Smart, has commended Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, for his exemplary conduct in Parliament on Thursday. His remarks came following the absence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, which led to the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings.

Speaking during his show, Captain Smart described Kennedy Agyapong as a standout figure among the NPP MPs. He praised Agyapong’s maturity and candid response to the media, contrasting his demeanor with that of Adansi-Asokwa MP, K.T. Hammond, who had earlier faced criticism for his statements earlier in the week.

On Thursday, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin adjourned proceedings indefinitely due to the absence of NPP MPs, which left the House without a quorum. The Speaker explained that the Business Committee had not submitted any agenda for the day and that the absence of MPs prevented any deliberations from taking place.

Kennedy Agyapong later admitted that the NPP caucus had failed to inform Speaker Bagbin about their extended caucus meeting, which delayed their arrival in Parliament. He acknowledged that had they communicated their plans, the Speaker might have been more accommodating.

Captain Smart highlighted Agyapong’s acknowledgment of the Speaker’s justified decision as a sign of political maturity. “Kennedy Agyapong is the only NPP MP who brightened the faces of his colleagues. His address to the media was thoughtful and demonstrated his maturity,” he stated.

The media personality also took the opportunity to criticize the NPP leadership’s approach to parliamentary engagements, suggesting that better communication could have prevented the adjournment.

Kennedy Agyapong’s response has sparked discussions about leadership and accountability within the NPP. While some praised him for his honesty, others expressed concern over the apparent disorganization within the party.

As Parliament remains adjourned, political watchers are urging MPs from both sides to prioritize effective communication and collaboration to ensure the House can fulfill its legislative responsibilities.

Kennedy Agyapong’s candid remarks have positioned him as a voice of reason within his party, drawing positive attention during a period of heightened scrutiny for the NPP.
