Dr Hassan Ayariga, the leader and founder of the All Peoples Congress (APC), has expressed his concerns about Ghana’s voting patterns, stating that citizens often choose leaders with more wealth than wisdom . According to him, this trend has been ongoing for years, with Ghanaians prioritizing a candidate’s financial resources over their intellectual capabilities .
Dr Hassan Ayariga, the APC’s Presidential Candidate, is speaking out against vote-buying in Ghana’s elections, and I agree more. He’s right; vote-buying is a harmful practice that undermines democracy and leads to poor leadership, corruption, and youth disenfranchisement.
Vote-buying, simply put, is when voters are offered incentives, like money, in exchange for their votes and political support . It’s a disheartening situation that affects the very foundation of Ghana’s democracy.
Dr Ayariga also highlighted the impact of illiteracy on electoral choices, which is a crucial point. When citizens lack access to education, they can be more easily swayed by false promises or manipulated into voting against their own interests.
Furthermore, Dr Ayariga touched on the challenges of financing campaigns outside of the dominant NPP and NDC. This is a significant hurdle for smaller parties and independent candidates, who often struggle to compete with the resources and influence of the larger parties.
