Tema, Nov. 26, GNA – Mr Justice King Essel, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ashaiman, has urged electorates of the area to vote massively for the party to ensure that Ashaiman gets the better outlook it deserved.
Mr Essel is seeking to unseat the incumbent and snatch the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which with the exception of the 2000 elections had won the seat continuously making it one of its strongholds.
Speaking at parliamentary candidates’ dialogue, organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), he stressed “Ashaiman deserve better. It is about time we give Ashaiman a new name.”
He said he had the leadership qualities that could turn the fortunes of Ashaiman, noting that the constituency currently looked like a slum in the eyes of others, therefore there was a need to edge it off with trees.
The NPP parliamentary candidate added that he would lead the way to ensure the beautification of parts of Ashaiman, which would include creating a serene area around the dam, in addition to other initiatives.
He said economy wise; he would use his position when given the nod to lobby for proper fine connecting roads which could open the place up as a trading community to adjourning areas.
Mr Essel who is an educationist, stated that as some own who have founded schools, held national positions in the Private School Association, and engaged in advocacy for schools, he was the best person to lead the transformation of the educational sector of Ashaiman.
He said he would deepen access to education by instituting a scholarship scheme for brilliant but needy children, as well for teachers and security personnel who want to upgrade their academics.
Answering questions on job creation, the NPP parliamentary candidate noted that agribusiness sector must be enhanced, therefore he would confer with stakeholders on how best to utilise the vast irrigation lands in the constituency to benefit the people.
He indicated that women were the backbone of the society, therefore women in business would be empowered with soft loans to expand their works and employ others.
Mr Essel stressed that “Ashaiman need someone who is focused and can do better,” noting that he was the best candidate to lead the constituency into its new look.
