The youth of Abirem-Atonsu in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region have accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of neglecting their needs.
They lamented the stalled construction of the Abirem-Antoa road, a project awarded to a contractor, which has seen no progress in months after initial work on a bridge was abandoned.
They claim construction equipment has been removed from the site, leaving the project incomplete.
At a press conference on Thursday, November 21, 2024, the residents issued a one-week ultimatum to the government to address the community’s concerns or face curses invoked through Antoa Nyamaa.
Adding to their grievances, the youth referenced a recent statement by President Akufo-Addo on OTEC FM, where he remarked, “I didn’t force the people of Kwabre to vote for the NPP. They say Kwabre East is the world bank for NPP.”
This statement, they said, further deepened their disappointment, prompting them to urge the people of Kwabre East to vote against the NPP in future elections and consider supporting the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) instead.
The youth are calling for accountability and immediate action to address their concerns, including the completion of the abandoned road project and the restoration of the affected school land.
They emphasised their readiness to take decisive steps if their demands are not met, signalling a growing discontent among the people of Kwabre East with the current government.
