The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, has assured the public of a robust security plan ahead of the December 7 election.
In collaboration with other security agencies, IGP Dampare has warned that they will not allow anyone to disturb the peace of the nation.
He made this statement during an engagement with the Civil Forum Initiative (CFI) in Accra on Tuesday, where he warned that troublemakers would be dealt with ruthlessly.
To ensure a peaceful election process, the Ghana Police Service has met with the Executives of the Civil Forum Initiative to discuss their preparedness.
Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Dampare emphasized, “No individual or group will be allowed to undermine the nation’s peace. Extensive measures have been put in place to guarantee peaceful elections.”
He further stated, “Those identified in connection with election-related crimes will be pursued and brought to justice.”
Dr. Dampare also called on the public to support efforts for a peaceful election, urging everyone to cooperate with the security agencies to maintain order.
He said their research indicates that, in previous elections, most violence occurred at the collation centers. For this reason, they are currently working with the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that only authorized persons will be allowed at the centers this year.
The same principle, he said, will apply at the EC’s office, where the presidential election results will be collated, to maintain peace.
Dr. Dampare mentioned that, in most cases, political parties that sense defeat incite their supporters to cause trouble, but that won’t be allowed to happen again.
Speaking to Adom News, Rev. Fr. Michael Quaicoe, Director of Governance, Justice, and Peace of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and an executive member of the Civil Forum Initiative, commended the Ghana Police Service for its strategic plan.
