TEWU-TUC suspends strike amid ongoing talks with government

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) has called off its strike, which was initiated over the government’s prolonged inaction regarding their conditions of service.

The decision follows a meeting with the National Labour Commission on Wednesday, where negotiations on the union’s demands began.

Speaking to Citi News, the General Secretary of TEWU-TUC, King James Azortibah, announced that union members are expected to resume work by Monday, November 25.

“The outcome of the meeting today is to go back. There was a directive from the National Labour Commission that we did not meet the seven-day mandate to be able to hold the strike, and yes we were aware but our demands were pressing and we thought we needed to come to the fore.

“So we respect their order and directives and we are taking steps to immediately to call our structures to inform them, get approval to ask our rank our file members to endeavour to come to work.

“For those who can go tomorrow, Friday and latest by Monday we expect every TEWU member to be at the post because we have suspended the strike”.
