On Monday, November 18, 2024, Oheneba Adusei Poku, the Akyempimhene, received his final respects from His Majesty, the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The Asantehene came at Nana Adusei’s Adum Palace, where his body was placed in state, in a solemn ceremony steeped in Ashanti tradition and culture.
Otumfuo carried out his last rite next to the mortal remains of the late Oheneba Adusei, which rested on a golden bed, while wearing his ‘nsɛbɛ kyɛ’ (hat) and draped in his ‘Atinka Ntoma,’ signifying his anguish at losing a royal and close confidant.
The Asantehene mouthed his final words as he danced to the lively rhythm of “Akantam” from the fontomfrom drums, holding the “Mponponsuo” (sword) in one hand and the “tu tia” (gun) in the other, with the “kum abrempong” around his neck.
