Renowned pollster Mussa Dankwa has cast doubt on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ability to secure 85% of votes in the Ashanti Region during the upcoming 2024 elections.
According to a report by MyNewsGh, Dankwa revealed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is steadily gaining ground in the NPP’s stronghold, with its candidate approaching the 30% vote mark.
His succinct post read: “The last regional poll conducted in the Ashanti Region shows the ruling New Patriotic Party is highly unlikely to achieve its 85% target in their stronghold as the opposition candidate and the leader of the National Democratic Congress nears the 30% mark.”
The Ashanti Region has long been considered the NPP’s electoral backbone, consistently delivering overwhelming support for the ruling party in previous elections.
However, this latest revelation by Dankwa suggests a potential shift in voter dynamics as the NDC ramps up its efforts to chip away at the NPP’s dominance in the region.
The NPP has made it clear that securing 85% of the votes in Ashanti is a cornerstone of its 2024 election strategy.
Party leaders have intensified their campaigns, deploying resources and holding rallies across the region to consolidate their base and counter the NDC’s growing influence.
Despite these efforts, Dankwa’s analysis indicates that the NPP may face an uphill battle in achieving its ambitious target.
If the NDC manages to maintain its momentum and claim close to 30% of the votes, it could significantly impact the overall electoral outcome.
