Nkrankwanta, (B/R), Nov. 19, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged political parties to be moderate in the celebration of Election 2024 victory.
Madam Cynthia Anima Boadu, the Bono Regional Director of the Commission (NCCE), who gave the advice, said that would help sustain the prevailing peace of the country.
She said losers of General Elections were always emotionally bitter and psychologically affected, saying “we should not celebrate the election victory as a means of mockery” that would infuriate opponents.
Mad Boadu was speaking at a meeting on the European Union-funded “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE)” programme being implemented by the NCCE and held at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.
It was attended by political party activists, religious bodies, and youth groups.
“Teasing and mockery will infuriate and flare up tempers of losing opponents can trigger political violence and thereby disturb the peace of the nation in the aftermath of the Election 2024”, she reminded.
Mad asked the electorates to value their lives in the elections and advised the youth to avoid the temptation of accepting monies to cause political violence.
She said violent extremism had become common now in the sub-region, saying it was therefore imperative for Ghanaians to uphold and defend the nation’s democratic principles.
“If there’s no peace or there’s violence you can’t worship and undertake your various political activities as a political party,” she stated, and advised political parties to remain decorous in the electioneering.
Mad Boadu also took the participants through the voting process and asked them to vote appropriately to minimize spoiled and rejected ballots in the elections.
Pastor Daniel Wife, the District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost admonished the people to respect and tolerate the views of one another and endeavour to live harmony irrespective of their political, tribal, and religious differences.
