The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to elevate the New Juaben South Municipality to a Metropolitan status if elected president.
According to him, the fast-developing urban area has what it takes to become a metropolitan.
He made this promise at a mini rally at the Koforidua lorry station as part of his tour of the region on Tuesday.
“They are saying that some of the assemblies are going to be elevated but it was written down in the NDC manifesto that if we are voted into power by God’s grace looking at how Koforidua is expanding and people evolving in the town, it is time to raise the various municipalities into metropolis status.
“I thought that as they changed some assemblies to districts, they would do the same to Koforidua but they didn’t so as they decided not to do it, so we will expand Koforidua to metropolitan status if we come to power because Metropolitan status will help us to get, resources for us to develop Koforidua and construct the roads and everything.
“I remember during our time in governance we constructed asphalt on all the roads within Koforidua but as I am speaking to you now, some of them are in a poor state, but we will reconstruct them when we come to power,” he stated.
Mr Mahama further revealed that the NPP wants to evade accountability hence their quest to hold onto power says a vote for Bawumia and the NPP is an endorsement of corruption and mismanagement.
