President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has highlighted the importance of the Flower Pot Interchange, calling it a legacy for future generations.
He urged Ghanaians to take responsibility for safeguarding the interchange to ensure its long-term functionality.
During the commissioning of the Interchange in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, November 19, the President stated,
“The Flower Pot Interchange is a legacy for future generations. I call on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the newly established National Roads Authority, traditional rulers, commuters, and all Ghanaians to join hands in safeguarding this asset for future generations in ensuring that it serves its purpose for the long term.”
He urged commuters utilizing the newly inaugurated Spintex-Flower Pot route to follow road safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
The President highlighted the importance of both commuters and pedestrians complying with traffic laws.
“I also urge motorists to exercise caution, let us prioritise safety, and respect road regulations.”
The interchange is expected to help facilitate movement from areas including Cantonments and Burma Camp to East Legon, Spintex, and Tema, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents in these areas.
Additionally, the interchange includes a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, an extra 200 meters of road connecting Cantonments from the Giffard Road interchange, a redesign of the Flower Pot roundabout and its approaches, pedestrian walkways on each side of the flyover, and road furniture such as streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals.
