Sam Okudzeto, a prominent Ghanaian statesman, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in the country’s governance.
Okudzeto pointed out that the Council of State, which advises the president on key matters, does not have the authority to impose its views on the people or any other branch of government.
“The Council of State cannot impose its views on anyone,” said Okudzeto during a meeting with other leaders to address the growing tension in the country.
This comment came after concerns were raised about the increasing divisions between political parties and the public, as well as the strain in the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The leaders, recognizing the potential for further conflict, took the opportunity to meet with the Speaker of Parliament.
They urged the Speaker to step in and work towards a resolution.
“We have seen the tension ahead. That is why we felt it was necessary to meet with the Speaker and offer our advice,” Okudzeto explained.
According to him, the Speaker has a critical role to play in ensuring that the country’s democracy remains stable and that the voices of the people are heard.
The leaders made it clear that while different political parties may hold contrasting views, they all share a common goal: the wellbeing of the nation.
They emphasized that finding a peaceful solution through dialogue and understanding was the best way forward.
“It is important that we come together, put aside our differences, and find a solution that will benefit the people of Ghana,” Okudzeto stated.
He reiterated that the Speaker’s ability to mediate and bring about a peaceful resolution was crucial in avoiding further conflict and ensuring the stability of the country.
