“We did not do well to qualify, I am sorry” – Otto Addo apologises to Ghanaians after Black Stars’ 2025 AFCON failure

Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has issued a public apology to the people of Ghana after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Following Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Niger in their final Group F match on Monday, which ended their hopes of qualifying for the tournament, Addo expressed deep remorse for the Black Stars’ poor performance.

In his post-match comments, Addo acknowledged the disappointment felt by the nation, emphasizing how significant Ghana’s absence from Morocco will be.

“I am ready to apologise. I am so sorry that we did not do well and qualify. I am sorry because I know how it feels and how Ghanaians are hurt. I am so sorry,” said Addo, reflecting on the team’s inability to deliver.

Throughout the qualifiers, Ghana struggled, failing to secure a win in all six of their matches. With only three points, the Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F, marking a disastrous campaign for the team.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss the future of the Black Stars and determine the next steps following the qualification setback.
