Some Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region are protesting remarks made by Dela Edem, a member of the NDC communication team, calling them offensive to former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The group comprises Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia South Constituency.
Speaking on TV ZXY, an NDC affiliate station, Edem stated categorically that Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s current wheelchair confinement is a direct result of his “evil deeds” during his administration.
“We all saw your bad governance, so don’t think we have forgotten. Your evil deeds have now kept you in the Wheelchair.”
The public and members of the NPP have strongly condemned Edem’s remarks, calling for respect and decorum towards the elder statesman.
Following the development, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong condemnation of the comments made by Dela Edem.
In an official press statement released on Sunday, November 17, the NDC openly criticised Mr Edem’s comments, describing them as “unsavoury and distasteful.”
The statement, signed by the party’s Communications Director, Sammy Gyamfi, made it clear that the NDC does not condone any disrespect towards senior statesmen, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia South Constituency have hit the streets pressing home their demand for Dela Edem to properly apologise for the comments.
In a Facebook post by Accra-based Citi TV, the group cladded in NPP colours were holding placards demanding a retraction and apology from the NDC Communicator.
