James Kofi Annan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Effutu, has expressed outrage over the removal of nearly 50 of his billboards in the Effutu constituency.
Annan accused the Effutu Municipal Assembly of acting unlawfully, claiming that it dismantled his commercial billboards, which had been in place since 2009.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Annan noted that his billboard business, established in 2009, had previously served New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaigns.
He rejected claims that his billboards lacked proper permits, dismissing the NPP’s allegations as unfounded. Despite ongoing court proceedings regarding the matter, he stated that the assembly went ahead with the removal of the billboards.
“You will not believe it that in Effutu constituency, nearly all my billboards, which is numbering almost 50, have been cut down. Those billboards are commercial billboards for companies, etcetera.
…They have been lawless. The Effutu Municipal Assembly has been lawless. It has acted with impunity. I started this billboard business in 2009 under a company and I started erecting them in the constituency all over the central region, the incumbent NPP itself used these billboards.
“They put out the information that I don’t have a permit, but they know they are lying…Actually, we are even in court, and they still went ahead to cut it,” he told host Selorm Adonoo.
