Speaking in an interview on GhOne TV, Tsikata revealed insights into Mills’ principles and approach to leadership, providing a rare glimpse into the mindset of the former president during his tenure.
According to Tsikata, President Mills reached out to him after winning the 2012 election, and they discussed how he intended to lead the nation. Mills assured Tsikata that he would never use his position as president to intimidate or harm anyone, especially members of the opposition. Instead, he expressed his commitment to fairness and inclusivity, aiming to govern in a way that respected all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“Yes, I had a conversation with President Mills before his death, and I’ll say the truth today,” Tsikata shared. “He told me he would never use his office to attack the opposition party or individuals. He fulfilled his words before he passed away.”
President Mills’ unexpected death on July 24, 2012, deeply impacted Ghana and beyond. He passed away due to natural causes, with official reports attributing his death to complications from throat cancer at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. While conspiracy theories have circulated, medical professionals and government sources consistently confirm that his death was due to natural causes.
