As Ghana’s Black Stars face a crucial showdown in their bid to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, defender Gideon Mensah says the team’s motivation is rooted in the pride of representing their country.
The Black Stars head into their penultimate qualifying match against Angola on Friday knowing they must win both of their remaining games while hoping Sudan stumbles in their final two fixtures.
With Sudan playing Niger just 24 hours before Ghana’s game, the Black Stars could find their fate sealed before they even step onto the pitch.
Despite the high stakes and the uncertainty surrounding their qualification, Mensah is adamant that the team’s focus remains clear.
“Our motivation comes from playing for Ghana. We have millions of people here in Ghana who support us in every game we play.
“We are here for the two games, and we are mentally prepared for them. There’s nothing else to think about except the games in front of us.”
The Black Stars will face Angola on Friday, November 15, in Luanda before wrapping up the qualifiers at home against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just two points from four games, ten behind Angola and five adrift of Sudan.
