Ghanaians Heavily Backlash Mahama For Making A Promise To Build A New National Monument In Kumasi

Former President John Dramani Mahama has again promised to revive the nation’s economy and improve the lives of Ghanaians. He outlined his vision for a “24-hour economy” to support people struggling across the country. With the elections approaching, campaigns from various political parties and independent candidates are ramping up, and more promises are being made to gain the trust and votes of Ghanaians.
In a report shared on GhOne TV’s official Twitter page, John Dramani Mahama promised the people of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region a new ultramodern theatre. The former president explained that his government would build the theatre to honor Kumasi’s rich cultural heritage and its strong ties to the creative arts. This new facility would be the second national theatre in Ghana, complementing the one in Accra.
However, Mahama’s promise sparked significant online reactions. Many pointed out that he made a similar pledge during his presidency after securing funding from Turkey, but the theatre was never built before he left office in 2016. Some commenters also voiced concerns about the project being in Kumasi instead of the Volta Region, noting that Ashanti has traditionally supported the opposition more than his own party.
