2025 AFCON Qualifiers: “It will be a very difficult task for Ghana to qualify’ – Angola coach Pedro Goncalves

Angola national team coach Pedro Goncalves has described Ghana as one of Africa’s top footballing nations ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Luanda on Friday, November 15. The match is set to take place on Friday, November 15, in Luanda.

Goncalves spoke to Ghanasportspage.com, acknowledging the immense challenge his team faces when taking on the Black Stars, a side he deems “one of the best in Africa.

“For us, playing against Ghana is always special,” Goncalves said in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com. “Ghana is one of the best countries in football in Africa, they have wonderful players, especially in the midfield and attack.

Ghana is certainly a top contender, but I feel that at the moment, their chances of qualifying are very low. It doesn’t only depend on them, but also on Sudan, who just need a point from two matches to qualify. So, it will be a very difficult task for Ghana”.

Despite acknowledging the challenges facing Ghana, Goncalves expressed confidence in his team’s abilities.

“We will play good football, with wonderful players, a great atmosphere, a good stadium, and a great pitch. We will do our best to beat one of the best teams in Africa,” he added. For Ghana, the stakes could not be higher. He spoke to the best sports outlet, ghanasportspage.com.

The Black Stars are in a must-win situation for both of their upcoming qualifiers. After facing Angola on Friday, they will return to Accra to host Niger on Monday, November 18, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana’s qualification hopes for the 2025 AFCON depend on securing six points from these two matches while hoping Sudan falters in their remaining fixtures. Sudan, who play the same two teams, only need one point from both games to seal their qualification, putting additional pressure on the Black Stars.

In this tight and crucial race, Ghana will need to win both matches and pray for Sudan’s defeat to have a chance of qualifying for next year’s tournament.
