Alma Pokua Adade Prempeh, the wife of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, pledged to spearhead a campaign to increase societal recognition for special needs children. She claims that the parents of these kids endure a lot throughout life. She clarified that the stigmatization that parents of special needs endure depresses and demoralizes them.
In the event that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected president on December 7th, Mrs. Adade-Prempeh encouraged these parents to remain optimistic. She was speaking at the Adabraka Rehabilitation Center, which connects and supports special mothers and people with disabilities in their business endeavors.
“It’s difficult to deal with regular kids, so please accept my blessings for what you are doing, especially the stigma you face. It’s difficult,” she remarked. “Parents of special children should not have to endure the difficulties they encounter, but sadly, no one is speaking up for them,” she said.
They were reassured by Mrs. Adade-Prempeh that she would spearhead their lobbying, but that her efforts would be more successful if her party held greater power. So, on December 7th, she begged the crowd to vote for Dr. Bawumia. Former Oti Regional Minister, who was part of the campaign team, said that PWDs were previously excluded from top positions and subjected to discrimination. The story was altered by President Akufo-Addo, though.
Hannah Awadzi, the founder and executive director of the Special Mothers Project, stated that the lack of participation of parents of children with such conditions in policy and decision-making processes might occasionally be concerning. She did, however, say that she was pleased that NPP officials had visited to speak with them and gave her word that mothers of special needs would support Dr. Bawumia in tackling their difficulties.
