I’m not afraid to bench any flop, says Ghana coach Otto Addo

Head coach of Ghana, Otto Addo, has stated that he is not afraid to bench any player who does not put his all in training sessions.

According to Coach Otto Addo he would not favor any player whose performance is below par.

Speaking to the media on Thursday while announcing his squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger, Addo was responding to a question posed to him on why he is not giving local players the chance in the Black Stars.

“It’s not about local or non-local. It’s about performance,” Otto Addo said.

“If you train well, why should I leave you on the bench? If I think you are better than whoever, Kudus or whoever, then why should I let him play?

“Then, because I want to win. I’m not doing anything just to please somebody. And to be honest, I’m not afraid. I’m not afraid to put whoever is on the bench. I’m not afraid. But I’m looking at the performance.”

Ghana is set to travel to Angola to face the Palancas Negras on November 15 at Estádio 11 de Novembro at 19:00 GMT.

Three days later, the Black Stars will host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, kick-off at 16:00 GMT.
