A military operation is underway at the Accra International Conference Centre’s Grand Arena, where Parliament is set to hold a session today, Thursday, November 7, 2024.
The security sweep is part of measures to ensure the safety of parliamentarians, with personnel conducting thorough checks for weapons, explosives, and other dangerous materials.
A video sighted by GhanaWeb captures military personnel inspecting the premises with security dogs ahead of the session.
Speaker Alban Bagbin had earlier directed the session to commence at 10:00 AM amid ongoing controversies surrounding the vacant seats in Parliament.
Currently, there is a standoff between the NDC and NPP caucuses over which side holds the Majority seats.
Bagbin, during his media address on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, suggested that the dispute between the NPP and the NDC over the Majority side could have been resolved internally.
“It is my firm belief that the matter before the Supreme Court can be settled in Parliament through mature deliberations and no compromises,” he stated.
