The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has challenged Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urging him to address his concerns within the parliamentary chamber rather than “ranting” in the media.
Ayariga’s remarks follow the Majority’s absence from a parliamentary session on Thursday, November 7, — a session they themselves had called—which led Speaker Alban Bagbin to adjourn proceedings in frustration.
After the adjournment, Afenyo-Markin spoke to the press, accusing Speaker Bagbin of stoking political division in Ghana and expressing disappointment over the Speaker’s recent press conference, which he described as “non-reconciliatory” and harmful to Ghana’s democratic process.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, Ayariga criticized Afenyo-Markin’s approach, saying the Majority Leader was relying too much on media commentary and “spies” to follow parliamentary proceedings rather than actively participating in chamber discussions.
“Clearly, they have abandoned their own mission. People have to go back and campaign. But you go out there and organise long press conferences and you are saying unprintable things about the speaker and threatening the speaker.
“If you are a man, come to the chamber and issue the threats in the chamber. Come and argue your case in the chamber. It is not for you to go and be arguing your case on the radio,” he stated.
