Sister Derby
Singer Sister Derby has revealed she returned to Ghana after facing significant challenges securing employment in the United Kingdom, despite holding a master’s degree.
Speaking on 3Music TV’s Big Conversation, the “Kakalika Love” singer shared that she lost her £700 internship in the UK and struggled to find a job despite applying to numerous positions.
Sister Derby noted that her professor advised her that a UK recession had limited job opportunities for non-citizens.
“I applied for so many jobs but couldn’t get one,” she stated. “I went to multiple job interviews at big publishing companies, but I wasn’t called back. I also registered with various job agencies, but nothing came through,” she said.
Faced with limited options, Sister Derby decided to return to Ghana to seek job opportunities. She recalled boarding one of the last Ghana Airwaves flights back in January 2010, marking her decision to make a fresh start in her home country.
