2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Asante Kotoko midfield maestro Emmanuel Antwi earns debut Black Stars call-up for Angola, Niger games

Asante Kotoko SC midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has received his first call-up to the Ghana national team for the crucial final rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The 24-year-old, who joined Kotoko from Great Olympics at the start of the 2024-25 season, has caught the eye with his impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League, making nine appearances and scoring once.

Antwi’s inclusion in Otto Addo’s squad underscores his rapid rise in form and makes him one of the few home-based players selected for the decisive qualifiers. He joins FC Samartex 1996 defender Isaac Afful and Nations FC captain Razak Simpson as the only domestic league players in the 23-man squad.

Ghana will face Angola at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Friday, November 15, 2024, before returning to Accra to host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.Currently sitting third in Group F with two points from four matches, Ghana trails leaders Angola and second-placed Sudan.

To secure qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco, the Black Stars must win both of their remaining matches and hope Sudan drops points in their fixtures. With the pressure mounting, the team is aiming for redemption in what has been a challenging campaign.
