Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has described the recent power outages in the country as a self-inflicted issue arising from what he termed the Akufo-Addo administration’s poor management of Ghana’s energy sector.
According to a report by 3news.com, he made these remarks during a recent campaign at Dambai in the Oti Region.
John Mahama expressed concern that the current government’s approach to handling the energy crisis was designed to delay and ultimately transfer the burden to the next administration.
“They are just managing the situation to pass it now to the next NDC government. As we speak, the government owes independent power producers about 2 billion dollars,” he stated.
Parts of the country have been experiencing power cuts in recent times, with the management of one of the power generators, Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited, suspending operations from October 8, 2024.
According to Sunon Asogli Power, the decision was necessitated by the indebtedness of the Electricity Company of Ghana to them.
