The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has expressed uncertainty about what will unfold when Parliament reconvenes on Thursday, November 7.
His comments follow a declaration by Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza, that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus intends to occupy the Majority seats on the Speaker’s right when Parliament resumes.
This move is expected to heighten tensions in the House, as seen on October 22, when a similar standoff led the Speaker to adjourn Parliament indefinitely.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, November 6, Bagbin acknowledged the unpredictability of the upcoming session, noting with a light-hearted tone, “I don’t know what will happen when the House reconvenes.”
“For these 32 years, without the media, we wouldn’t have come this far. You can always disagree, but once we have agreed to disagree, as part of our work it is permitted. Please, what will happen tomorrow I don’t know. This is because I don’t control that,” he stated to the amusement of the persons present.
“But you know what happened on the day of the adjournment? I had three options, as I told my NPP friend after the walkout and was left with only the NDC members. I could have proceeded with the business,” he added.
