According to the video posted on twitter today Tuesday by GHOne TV, in a dramatic incident in Accra City, police shot and killed four suspected robbers who were reportedly attempting a robbery near a construction site in the area on Tuesday.
The incident took place in broad daylight, catching the attention of numerous bystanders.
According to authorities, the suspected robbers had planned to ambush a construction site manager who was expected to arrive with cash for workers’ wages.
The suspects were allegedly lying in wait inside a parked salon car near the site. The police, acting on a tip-off, arrived just in time to intercept the group before the robbery could take place.
Witnesses reported that police officers arrived in two vehicles, immediately surrounding the suspects’ car.
Without delay, officers sprang into action, opening fire on the vehicle and killing the four men on the spot.
The confrontation created a scene of chaos as onlookers gathered to witness the incident, with some expressing relief that the suspects were apprehended before causing harm.
During a search of the suspects’ car, police recovered a range of items, including police uniforms, three pistols, and four knives.
Authorities believe these items may have been used to intimidate victims during previous robberies.
The items found on the suspects suggest they may have been involved in other criminal activities, and police are investigating links to recent robberies in the area.
Musa Yego, head of the Flying Squad, stated that the police are continuing investigations to identify the suspects and understand their network.
“We are looking into their backgrounds and any connections they might have had to other criminal acts. We are also exploring whether any of them had affiliations with law enforcement,” Yego explained.
The incident, which occurred around 1 PM, quickly drew a large crowd of bystanders, curious to see the aftermath of the police operation.
People in the community expressed mixed feelings, with some commending the police for their swift action, while others raised concerns about the use of deadly force.
Following the operation, the bodies of the suspects were moved to the mortuary for further examination.
The police assured the public that their efforts to tackle crime in Accra would continue, aiming to make the city safer for all residents.
