The owners of Cabest Jewellery, a jewellery shop in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra, have pledged to reimburse a customer for the GH¢7.5 million stolen from him in a recent armed robbery. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 2, 2024, when armed robbers ambushed a customer shortly after he had delivered raw gold to the shop.

One of the shop owners, Clement Amos Baffour, stated in an interview with GhanaWeb TV’s #SayItLoud that the customer, who had just received payment for his gold, was attacked as he was leaving the shop. The robbers reportedly forced him to pull over, blasted his car tire, and demanded he open the trunk, taking all the money he had received from the transaction.

“I’m partners with Mr. Baffour. We paid him, and when he was leaving, he was attacked. The amount robbed was more than GH¢6.2 million. He had obtained additional funds from another location, making the total around GH¢7.5 million,” said one of the owners. “We have decided to get him the amount that was stolen,” he added.

At the time of the robbery, both owners were absent from the shop. The incident marks the second time in less than three months that Cabest Jewellery has been targeted by robbers, causing residents to express growing concern for their safety. Many have called on the Ghana Police Service to provide increased security in the area, given the prevalence of jewellery stores.

Details of the Robbery :

Videos from the scene depict at least five armed men brandishing firearms and firing shots into the air as they loaded bags of money into a silver vehicle. Witnesses reported that the robbers threatened bystanders, even scattering some of the money before making their escape. In the process, at least one person was injured and later taken to the hospital by concerned residents.

Police Response:

The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the gang responsible. In a statement released on November 2, 2024, the police confirmed the attack and reassured the public of their commitment to apprehending those involved.

“The Police are on a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewellery shop at Adabraka in Accra on Saturday, November 2, 2024, injuring one person,” part of the statement read. “We would like to assure the public that we will bring them to justice.”
